Betty Vlk died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Notre Dame Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m until 7 p.m on Wednesday at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco and again one hour prior to services at the Church on Thursday. There will be a Parish Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rev. Richard J. Ament will officiate.
Elizabeth Catherine Vlk was born on March 14, 1949, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lucille (Downs) Vlk. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. Betty was an only child, who lived with her parents until their death. After her parents aged, she took very good care of her parents for several years.
She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1968. Betty did day care for many years. The children thought she was a fabulous babysitter and friend. She thought a lot of the children she babysat for and she was especially fond of her grandchildren. She was very proud to be a mother and grandmother.
Betty had faith in God and felt religion was a very important part of her life. She lived a plain and simple life. Her favorite hobby was to collect angels. She was very friendly and always had a smile for everyone she would meet.
Her daughter, Kay Garcia and husband, David, and three grandchildren, John, Katie, and David survive her.
Betty’s parents preceded her in death, John died on September 10, 1997 and Lucille on June 8, 1976.
