Clementine Meier died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. She was 89 years of age. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, IA, with burial in Calvary Cemetery at Riceville, IA. Friends may call from 2 P.M. until 6 P.M. on Sunday at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville. There will be a 3 p.m. Rosary and 4 p.m. Vigil Service on Sunday. Clementine Beatrice Meier was born in Howard County, Iowa on April 26, 1918, the daughter of Lewis and Louise (Shimek) Maravetz. She attended the rural school near her home and also the parochial school in Lourdes. Following her education, she helped do household chores when the neighbor ladies had their children. On June 18, 1940, Clementine was united in marriage to Arnold Meier at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. After their marriage, they were members of the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, eventually transferring to the Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville where she has been a member for over 39 years. When Clementine and Arnold were farming, she helped milk the cows, took care of the chickens and was an immaculate housekeeper and raised their three children. She was known for her flowerbeds, enjoyed gardening, doing embroidery, sewing, and loved to bake, especially Czech foods. In later years, she liked to travel. Originally they drove, but started going on bus trips and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. Clementine is survived by her three children: Eugene of Decorah, IA, Dorothy (Lawrence) Schmitt of Riceville, IA and Allen (Ellen) of Mason City, IA; four grandsons: Joseph (Nicole) Schmitt, Christopher (Monique) Schmitt, Thomas and Stephen Schmitt; three great grandchildren: Alexis, Madelynn and Matthew; two sisters: Marjorie (Leo) Weber of Charles City, IA, Evelyn (Richard) Nicholson of Osage, IA; two brothers: Arnold Maravetz of Elma, IA and Raphael (Anna) Maravetz of Riceville, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold on January 22, 2005, sister-in-law Bernie Maravetz. |
