Evelyn Haskovec died Saturday, October 20, 2007, at the Regional Health Services Hospital of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa after suffering a stroke. She was 92 years of age. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, with burial in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, in Lourdes, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday at the Conway Funeral Home and an hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. There will be a 4:30 P.M. Rosary on Monday. Evelyn Mae Haskovec was born April 22, 1915, on a farm near Little Turkey, IA, the daughter of James A. and Christina (Shileny) Pechota. She received her education in the rural school near her home. Following her education, she did as most girls did and stayed home to help her mother with the chores. On May 23, 1933, Evelyn was united in marriage to Frank W. Haskovec at the Assumption Church in Little Turkey. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Elma, on which they lived until Frank developed health problems. After his health declined, they moved to Elma and ran a tavern until the fall of 1961when Frank died. That same fall, Evelyn moved to Cresco where she went to work for Bob Davies in the Super Market and later started at the Howard County Hospital and remained there until she retired after 35 years in various departments. Evelyn belonged to the Our Lady of Lourdes Church until she moved to Cresco and joined the Catholic church. She was active in her church helping with various projects, making noodles for bazaars and festivals. She helped in cleaning the church every year that she was able. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, baking, playing cards and bingo. Evelyn was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, the Rosary Society, and belonged to a card club. Evelyn was very proud of her family and enjoyed having the grandchildren come to visit. Survivors include her daughter, Bernice Blaser of Waterloo, IA, 9 grandchildren: Michael, Lynn, Doug Blaser, Robbie (Ann) Blaser, and Renee (Chuck) Carpenter; Brian (Amy), Kevin McCarville, Sherry (Mike) Bergan and Jeff (Sharon) McCarville; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Clara Voves of Cresco, IA, and a son-in-law, Don McCarville of Waterloo She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank on August 17, 1961, her daughter Rita McCarville; a son-in-law, Gordon Blaser; two brothers: Richard Pechota and Earl Pechota, a sister: Helen Moudry, and a great granddaughter. |
