Joan H. Pettengill, age 72, of Cresco, IA, died on December 13, 2007 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA, after a short illness.
Joan Helen Pettengill was born on July 7, 1935 at Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Willie and Clementine (Waddell) Westphal. She graduated from Aurelia High School and attended Buena Vista College. On February 28, 1958 she was united in marriage to Donald Pettengill at the Zion Lutheran Church in Aurelia, IA. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Darnell. Joan was a devoted housewife and mother, with Donald being involved in his work she faithfully moved with him and his job to various towns and schools such as Ayrshire, Jefferson, Galva, Manson, Graettinger, and Interstate 35. In, 1982 they made their home in Cresco where in February they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Joan was active with the high school band and twirlers during school. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church ladies, Rebecca Circle, Hospital Auxiliary, two bridge clubs, and the Friends and Council Woman’s Club. Joan enjoyed playing the piano and bridge. She enjoyed spending time with her three cats and her dog. She also loved having her son and grandchildren visit.
Survivors include her husband Don, one son, Darnell (Donna) of Lake Zurich, Illinois; two grandchildren: Laura Pettengill of Des Moines, IA and Michael Pettengill of Lake Zurich, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, with burial 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2007 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia, IA. Visitation will be held at the Conway Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
