Lester Drtina, of rural Lime Springs, Iowa, died Monday, October 8, 2007, as a result of a car accident. He was 85 years of age. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Notre Dame Church in Cresco, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Richard J. Ament will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m on Friday at the Funeral Home and on Saturday for one hour prior to services at the church. Lester Frank Drtina was born June 18, 1922 on the same farm near Davis Corners, where he lived on his entire life, the son of Joseph And Frances (Zobeck) Drtina. He received his education in the rural school near his home. On September 28, 1948, Lester was united in marriage to Rita M. Svoboda at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. To this union, one son, Gary was born. He was a farmer all his life. He enjoyed machinery and the everyday work of the farm, taking great pride in his work. He truly enjoyed being outdoors and what was called the rural life. As a hobby, Lester liked fishing and raising draft horses. He was fond of pets, especially his terrier, “Tippy”. He enjoyed visiting and was especially proud of his grandchildren. Survivors include his son, Gary Drtina and his wife, Sue of Woodbury, MN, two grandchildren: Allison and Tom Drtina, a brother, George (Helen) Drtina, and a sister, Violet Ladwig, all of Cresco, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rita on July 20, 1962, two brothers: Joseph and Edward, three sisters: Esther Jones, Anita Svoboda, and Annie Estelle Drtina. |
