Lucille Frances Bengfort was born September 9, 1919 on a farm in Military Township, Winneshiek County, IA. She was the daughter of John and Catherine A. (Holthaus) Bengfort. She attended school in Festina and Ossian, IA. Lucille married Arnold C. Moellers on May 3, 1938 at St. Francis de Sales Church, Ossian, IA. Together they farmed for many years on a farm one mile west of Ossian, moving to Ossian in l971. She had many talents – crocheting, embroidery, cooking, baking, gardening and canning the fresh produce. Her ability to use a wood cook stove and create very special family recipes will always be remembered. She was a life long Cubs Fan and to her dismay will never be able see them win a world series. It would only be appropriate that they win it all in her memory. She did attend several games at Wrigley Field and told of winning many candy bars from her did when the Cubs won 21 games in a row in 1935. She also enjoyed playing cards and working on jigsaw puzzles. Lucille worked as a school cook for several years. In the mid 1960’s, she became an employee of Don Wessels at Wessel’s Variety in Ossian where many remember her as the lady behind the candy counter. Wessels Variety eventually was sold to Paul Horsfall where she worked until retirement. She was an active member of the Rosary Society at St. Francis de Sales and was quick to assist with all activities. She enjoyed volunteering at the Ossian Senior Hospice and kept very active her entire life. Lucille is survived by four children: Robert (Florence) Moellers of Cedar Rapids; Joyce (Ray) Amber of Oelwein; Jim (Bonnie) Moellers of Elgin; Stan (Deb) Moellers of Decorah. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Paul Moellers, Brian Moellers, Betty Haar, Rhonda Erdelt, Brenda Amber, Sherry Kooiker, Tami Harms, Jim Moellers, Jr., Rick Moellers, Dan Moellers, Scott Moellers, and Lucas Moellers; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Bengfort of Cresco, sisters-in-law, Beatrice Moellers of Northbrook, IL and Marietta Moellers of Ossian, IA.
