Malinda M. Moeller died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa after suffering a stroke earlier that evening. She was 87 years of age. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. David M. Beckman will celebrate. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Schmitz Funeral Home where there will be a 4:30 pm Catholic Daughters of America Rosary and a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. and an hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Malinda Margaret Moeller was born on September 24, 1920, on the farm in the Ossian area, the daughter of Frank A. and Christine (Timp) Moellers. Malinda was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and attended St. Francis De Sales Grade School. Following her education, she helped out at home and helped out in Chicago for a while and then she became a housekeeper for Rev. Joseph N. Schemmel in Blessing, Ionia and LaMotte until his death. She then was housekeeper for Rev. William Leonard at Nativity in Dubuque for a few years. When Malinda retired, she purchased the home of her parents in Ossian and remained there until her death. She enjoyed playing cards so much that she belonged to more than one card club. She was a great gardener and loved to cook, did quilting, cross stitch and was immaculate and perfect in all she did. In earlier years, she belonged to bowling teams and in later years, she loved to travel. Malinda was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Francis de Sales Rosary Society and multiple card clubs. Malinda is survived by one brother: Sylvester Moellers of Ossian, IA and two sisters: Imogene (Roy) Macal of Decorah, IA; and Elberta (Dennis) Huinker of Calmar, IA; nieces and nephews: Mary Jane Phelps, Nancy Stahl, Lynn Macal, Christy Hendrix, Marlene Dickinson, Mary Knutson, Joe Macal, Wayne Huinker, John Huinker, Michael Huinker, Ann Tressel, Ed Huinker, Jean Sullivan, Kathleen Timp and Becky Huinker She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in- law Virginia Moellers and a nephew: Loren Macal. |
