Mass of Christian Burial for Marcie Kovarik, age 67, of Cresco, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

 

   Marcie Kovarik, age 67, was called home on Monday, March 24, 2008, at the Cresco Care Center after a short battle with cancer. 

   Marcella Victoria Kovarik was born September 21, 1940, in Ridgeway, Iowa, to Joseph and Victoria (Samec) Berka.  She attended country school, and then later went on to graduate from Notre Dame High School in 1958. 

   On June 15, 1960, she was united in marriage to Stanley Kovarik at the Holy Trinity Church in Protivin, Iowa.  Marcie was a homemaker and also co-owner of the Kozy Korner with Stanley from 1977 until 1981. 

   They then moved to Cresco in 1982.  After they moved to Cresco, She held jobs at PNP, Kum-n-Go, Highway Inn and Hawkeye Pizza.  She was also a consultant for Avon, Tupperware, Watkins and Amway.  She had worked at Casey’s up until her retirement in 2002.

   In her spare time, Marcie enjoyed holding card parties and playing bingo.  She also liked taking trips to the boat and playing the slots.

   She is survived by her children:  Dale (Linda) of Goshen, IN, Diane (Steve) of Cresco, IA, Dennis (Carol) of Monona, IA, David (Connie) of Cresco, IA, and Donna (Steve) of Des Moines, IA, 10 grandchildren: Nick, Nathan, Ann, Theresa, Brittany, Ashley, Zachary, Erica, Sam, and Abby; 1 brother:  Joseph (Georgine) Berka of Cresco, IA and one sister:  Irene Shimak of Lime Springs, IA, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John Wacha, Larry (Sharon) Kovarik and Mary Stika; seven nieces and nine nephews.

   Marcie was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 2006, her parents, one brother:  Chrles Berka, two sisters:  Marie (Ed) Voves, and Margie (John) Wacha; three brothers-in-law:  Ed Voves, Charles Shimak, and Gerald Stika; and one nephew:  Steven Kovarik
