Mildred “Millie” Barthelme died Sunday, November 25, 2007, at Oelwein Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Iowa after a lingering illness. She was 79 years of age. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Notre Dame Parish with burial in Calvary Cemetery both in Cresco. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with a 4:30 pm Rosary and a 7 pm prayer service November 27, 2007 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco and one hour prior to the services at church on Wednesday. Mildred Rose Barthelme was born on April 2, 1928, near Protivin, Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Rose K. (Bakula) Shores. She attend the rural school near her home. Following her education, she started working at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. In 1946, she was united in marriage to Gerald Barthelme. They became the parents of four children: Gerald, Robert, Patricia and Jacqueline. Even with the four children to raise, she made herself busy and worked as a meat cutter for IGA in Cresco for about twenty years. She started working for Donaldson Company and retired after 25 years in 1998. All during this time, she would work her shift and then go to the Tastee-Freeze and work there until closing. With all her time working, she still found time to garden, go with her friends for coffee and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, St. Joseph’s Rosary Society and the U.A.W. Survivors include her 4 children: Gerald “Butch” of Cresco, Bob of Cresco, Pat Rechkemmer of Oelwein, and Jackie Barthelme (Dirk Fish) of Cresco, 11 grandchildren; Donelle (Mark) Bina, Tera Barthelme, and Christian Barthelme; Christin (Dan) Neubauer, Brett Barthelme-Lehnertz, Jon Barthelme and Sara (Ivan) Hovden; Amber Rechkemmer, Jerrod (Lindsey) Rechkemmer; Colten and Levi Henry; 10 great grandchildren: Shelby Henry, Jaycey Bina, Logan Bina, Derek Neubauer, Cade Neubauer, Kennedy Neubauer, Zach Lehnertz, and Kendra Rechkemmer; Morgan and Peyton Barthelme; and 1 step great grandchild: Gabe Bina, her mother: Rose Shores of Cresco, and one sister: Marlene (Joe) Trachta of Cresco. She was preceded in death by her father, her husband Gerald in 1999, and one sister, Loretta Steger. |
