        Funeral Services for Marie Meier will be Friday, April 18, at 11:00 AM at St Stephen’s Church in Chester Iowa.  Visitation will be on Thursday, April 17, 2008, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa, with a 4:00 PM Rosary on Thursday and on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. 

   Marie Meier, age 88, died on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Stewartville Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

   Marie Elizabeth Brummond was born on December 8, 1919, near New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel Julius and Gertrude Elizabeth (Heying) Brummond.  She attended country school near her home.

On May 15, 1936, she was united in marriage to Jerome F. Meier in New Hampton.  To this union, four children were born.  Marie and Jerry farmed in the New Hampton area after marriage.  In 1941, they moved to Chester Iowa.  Marie was a telephone operator for many years beginning in 1948. 

   She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, mowing, and with her family mowed some of the cemeteries near Chester.  She liked to play cards and dance.  She was especially happy when she was with her family.  Marie was a member of St Stephen’s Church in Chester.  She was active in her church and in the Senior Center in Chester. 

     Survivors included her daughter, Virginia, and her husband, Craig Kintz of Leesburg, VA and her son, Richard and his wife Sandy Meier of Rochester, MN, five grandchildren:  Laurie (Eric) Raibley, Stephanie (Thomas) Waldrop, Catherine (Chuck) Royster, Susan (Todd) Nash and James Meier, eight great grandchildren:  Megan Waldrop, Alex and Nicholas Raibley, Caitlyn and Carolyn Royster, Emily, Matthew, and Olivia Nash.

     Preceding Marie in death were her parents, her husband, Jerome on July 25, 1986, two sons, Duane in 1960, and Robert in 1988, four sisters:  Adeline Shinstine, Esther Yearling-Barta, Mabel Stiefel, and Arlene Brummond; and four brothers:  John, Lawrence, Clarence, and Gerald Brummond.
