Valborg Vaala, age 82, of Cresco, IA, died on February 10, 2008 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA, of natural causes.
Funeral Services will be Friday, February 15, 2008 at 1 PM at the Saude Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery, both in rural Lawler, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2008 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to services on Friday.
Valborg Sylvia Vaala was born February 10, 1926 the daughter of Henry and Jeanette Mathilda (Anderson) Halvorson. She graduated from Ridgeway High School in Ridgeway, Iowa and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught school for a couple of years in the rural school system.
On March 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Gregory O. Vaala at the Lincoln Parsonage in Ridgeway, IA. To this union, six children were born: Sylvia, Geraldine "Jeanne", Martin, Glen, Randy, and Janette. They farmed for 49 years. After Gregory passed away Valborg moved to Cresco. Valborg was active in her church, was a 4-H Leader for many years, and enjoyed doing the Jumble in the newspaper each day. Her avocation was her kindness and her love.
Survivors include three daughters: Sylvia Vaala of Minneapolis, MN; Geraldine "Jeanne" (Tom) Schmitz of Waterloo, IA; and Janette Vaala of Rochester, MN; three sons: Martin (Kathy) Vaala of St. Louis Park, MN; Glen Vaala of Decorah, IA; Randy (Jo) Vaala of Lawler, IA; six grandchildren: Jake Schmitz, Jenny Schmitz, Allison Vaala, Ryan Flynn, Erin Fettkether, and Troy (April) Habana; 3 great grandchildren: Logan Fettkether, Kadie Habana and Kasey Habana; and a sister: Alice Fretheim of Decorah, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Gregory on April 5, 1995, and two sisters: Thelma Swenson and Helen Kjose.
